En el corazón de Ucrania, la historia de Enjoy The Wood cobró vida en 2014. Nacida de la visión colectiva de Igor y Maryna Fostenko, junto con el apoyo de los padres de Maryna, esta empresa se fundó con un alma y un propósito. ¿Su misión? Infundir alegría, inspiración y aventura en hogares, oficinas y vidas a través de creaciones sostenibles y elegantes. Y esa misión sigue viva.
Fundadores
Las raíces de esta extraordinaria empresa se remontan al optimismo inquebrantable de Igor, incluso ante la adversidad. Su camino se forjó a través de una infancia marcada por dificultades: pobreza, pérdidas, falta de vivienda y batallas personales. Sin embargo, estas pruebas se transformaron en peldaños que lo llevaron a construir un negocio con un propósito y una familia resiliente.
El padre de Igor los había abandonado cuando él y su hermana aún no tenían tres años, dejando que su madre los criara sola. La madre también tenía a su cuidado a la abuela discapacitada de Igor. Vivían en extrema pobreza y a veces no tenían suficiente para comer.
"El dinero escaseaba. Cuando tenía seis años, mi hermana Katya y yo recogíamos fresas y lirios en el valle del bosque y luego las vendíamos en el mercado de Svyatoshynsky", recuerda Igor.
Igor fue testigo de las luchas de su madre y soñó con el día en que él crecería y se volvería independiente. A la edad de 11 años, una tragedia se cobró la vida de la madre y la abuela de Igor. Igor y su hermana se quedaron solos. Al principio, los niños se mudaron con la nueva familia de su padre, pero debido a constantes discusiones terminaron en la calle.
Durante cuatro años, Igor sobrevivió en un sótano no lejos de la casa de su padre, pasando las noches de invierno en las estaciones de metro. Se hizo amigo de otros fugitivos, luchando por sobrevivir mendigando y trabajando como cargadores de mercados. Sus ganancias les proporcionaron sustento, pero también una peligrosa adicción al pegamento.
A los quince años, Igor y su hermana conocieron a Mykola, quien se convirtió en su mentora. Los llevó a su casa, donde se alojaban otros niños sin hogar. Los niños trabajaban por las mañanas, estudiaban por las tardes y asistían a la iglesia los fines de semana.
El modesto salario de Mykola apenas cubría sus necesidades. En invierno, Igor quitaba la nieve; en verano cortaba el césped y ayudaba a Mykola a desmontar coches para conseguir repuestos. Poco a poco, Igor fue dominando el oficio y muy pronto pudo desmontar un coche entero en un día.
"Impulsado por el amor por los coches, al terminar mis estudios nocturnos, me matriculé en una escuela de electromecánica. Sobresalí y me gradué con honores."
Igor conoció a Maryna cuando tenía dieciséis años y se casó con ella a los veintiuno. Soñaba con iniciar un negocio familiar.
"Ansiaba una vida en la que mi familia tuviera todo lo que necesitaba. Me motivó a convertirme en emprendedor".
Igor y Maryna constantemente intercambiaban ideas nuevas, impulsados por su afinidad por asumir riesgos y dar vida a proyectos innovadores.
Todo empezó con una idea
Durante una cena familiar, los padres de Maryna mencionaron a un amigo que vendía artículos grabados en Etsy. La idea cautivó a Igor y Maryna. Decidieron empezar elaborando artículos para el hogar exquisitos y funcionales y vendiéndolos en Etsy. Así nació en 2014 Enjoy The Wood. En 2016, Igor tuvo la idea de crear un cautivador mapamundi de madera para la pared de su oficina.
Triunfos en Kickstarter
DISFRUTA DE LA MADERA
La primera campaña de Kickstarter de Enjoy The Wood cambió las reglas del juego, catapultó a la empresa al centro de atención y la presentó a una audiencia más amplia. Originalmente tenían como objetivo recaudar 15.000 dólares para fines de relaciones públicas, pero superaron las expectativas y consiguieron más de 100.000 dólares en financiación.
Este logro mostró una fuerte demanda del mercado, una artesanía excepcional y ofertas únicas. El abrumador apoyo de los patrocinadores reforzó el valor de las creaciones de carpintería de Enjoy The Wood.
El éxito de la campaña no sólo proporcionó un impulso financiero sino que también impulsó la innovación. El aumento de fondos permitió invertir en equipos, tecnología y recursos, refinando la producción y la calidad del producto.
The Making of the Wooden World Map
Enjoy The Wood specializes in crafting exquisite handmade maps with meticulous attention to detail. Each map is a unique work of art, carefully designed and manufactured with high-quality materials and advanced techniques for durability.
These painted parts, ranging from 3-5 mm thickness, are glued to a 4 mm workpiece with pre-engraved borders for uniformity. Quality controllers ensure compliance with manufacturing requirements and finalize all the details. This adds individuality.
Finally, the packers put not only the map parts, foam and various accessories such as pins into the box, but also the warmth and incredibly special energy that you will feel as soon as you unpack your order.
The process begins with CNC machines engraving country names and capitals on birch plywood. Parts are cut along country borders, and grinding machines make them smooth to the touch. Parts are painted with oil and wax for wood preservation.

- Anti-counterfeit strategies. Ihor Fostenko has the exclusive right to manufacture and sell Enjoy The Wood map décor within (inter)national markets, confirmed by the patents mentioned in the Copyright section. The precondition for obtaining patents, such as the design novelty, was observed.
War and Rebuilding
Prior to the war, Enjoy The Wood built a modern production facility in Borodyanka and relocated its main office to Irpin. These were lost in the war, along with equipment valued at $2 million and $300,000 worth of finished products.
One month later, they made a remarkable comeback in Serednie near Uzhgorod, overcoming challenges to rebuild. The company secured a new location, facilitated the transportation and resettlement of personnel, re-established logistics and procurement processes. On top of that, they supported the Ukrainian army by purchasing body armor, helmets, vehicles, and organizing fundraising events. Throughout the war, their team has worked tirelessly to acquire and deliver humanitarian aid to the local population.

Contributing to Ukraine's War Effort
In April 2022, Enjoy The Wood purchased 120 body armor and 50 helmets worth 1,800,000 UAH. In August 2022, they organized the first charity training marathon called "Enjoy The Export" and donated 2, 030, 000 UAH to Serhiy Prytula Charitable Foundation. They conducted a charity raffle in partnership with Open Hearts, raising 100,000 UAH. In January 2023, Enjoy The Wood donated 500,000 UAH for drones and partnered with Zdvizhevka residents to raise funds for safety nets. Overall, they have contributed over 5,5 million UAH to the war effort and continue to do so.
From frontline heroes to lifesavers and energy system defenders, each individual and collective contribution, no matter how small, counts. Diplomatic efforts, information warfare, volunteering, and business development all play crucial roles.

Partnering in Times of War
Before the war, Enjoy the Wood signed a contract with a U.S. partner for 900 maps, intending sea delivery upon transporting the maps from Irpin to Odesa. On February 23rd, the maps were loaded on the ship and ready for the long voyage. However, on February 24th, the war broke out, disrupting the sea routes. The maps were redirected to western Ukraine, then shipped to Hamburg, Germany, and finally, to their destination.
This incident, later followed by the destruction of the production facilities and offices, tested the company’s logistics abilities and resilience to the maximum. Not only was the team of Enjoy The Wood able to save.

The Enjoy The Wood's LED map stood out, alongside other decor items and eye-catching product packaging. Reflecting on the event, Igor Fostenko shared that his goal extended well beyond financial success. For him, the experience was about inspiring others to embrace their own creative endeavors.
